Ten With a Flag

Joseph Paul Haines writes at the intersection of science fiction, horror, and fantasy — not to entertain you safely, but to unsettle you in ways that linger. Fifteen stories of characters who sin dreadfully against themselves and against the people they love, and yet whose motivations resonate so deeply that condemnation becomes impossible. What remains is something rarer. Recognition.

The title story, Ten With a Flag, published in Interzone and reprinted in John Joseph Adams’s landmark anthology Brave New Worlds, has been taught in high school classrooms worldwide. A major television adaptation is in production.

The other fourteen stories are just as unforgiving.

Ten With a Flag and Other Stories is the work that started everything. Read it before the world catches up.
